More about the Bootcamp

Who’s it for?

The Bootcamp is run by the Learning Development Centre (LDC) and is aimed at students who have been offered a place on an undergraduate course in the School of Health & Life Sciences (SHLS) at Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU). It is for students with both unconditional and conditional offers and attendance will have no impact on the outcome of that offer. Please note it is completely up to yourself if you wish to attend - it is in no way compulsory.

What’s it for?

This is a two-day Bootcamp to get you fit for the challenges that uni will bring! The programme gives you a chance to see what it will be like to be a student and an opportunity to think about the skills you have and the skills you can develop on your course. There will be practical sessions on essential skills such as academic writing, as well as the opportunity to participate in lectures and tutorials. Current students will also be on hand to give you an insight into what it’s really like here. We’ll also try to make sure you have fun!

When is it?

The 2-day programme will run from 9.30am - 2.45pm on Thursday 8th September and 10am - 1.40pm on Friday 9th September 2022. The sessions follow on from each other and so we encourage you to attend both days if possible.

How do I attend?

The Bootcamp will run as a hybrid event, where the sessions will be on campus but there will be an opportunity to attend virtually. As your University experience as you join us in 2022-2023 will be predominantly on campus, we encourage you to attend in person. This will give you an opportunity to meet new friends, explore the campus and gets a more hand-on experience of studying, however, you can choose to attend online on either day. The online attendance will give you an option to watch a live stream of all big sessions and you will be allocated to an entirely online group for the tutorial session. You will be able to ask questions during the event via our Bootcamp Padlet and they will be answered either live or on the Padlet itself. You will receive more information closer to the time.

How do I register?

Places will be allocated on a first come first served basis and numbers are limited. The event is free to attend but, unfortunately, we are unable to reimburse travel costs and lunch will not be provided. However, you are welcome to bring lunch along or visit the student refectory. If you would like to attend, please register on this Eventbrite page.
