Occupational Therapy Practitioner Research Clinic
13th October 2022

Domna Salonen is building an international career in public mental health research. Her practice roots are firmly in 21st century occupational therapy and allied health practice. Domna’s clinical practice in acute hospitals and mental health inpatient services in greater London and North East of England have fuelled her interest in finding meaningful and purposeful ways to support those at the highest risk of ill-health due to multiple long-term conditions, socioeconomical disadvantage, stigma and exclusion. Her developing  research programme focuses on intergenerational mental health in families and communities currently under-served by research and practice.

Soon her career journey takes her to visit Glasgow Caledonian University. She is looking forward to taking part in the Research Showcase event on 12th October. What makes the visit special to her is an opportunity to listen to others’ career development stories on the 13th October when she hosts a Research Clinic with practitioners.

In the one-to-one sessions (online or in person, both options available), Domna and the participating practitioner will have a confidential conversation. You can tell Domna about your professional journey so far, and the related hopes, dreams and challenges. You can also ask her anything about her own journey.

There are no strict criteria for who can show up to these sessions. The session will offer support to occupational therapy / allied health practitioners who want to, for example:

  • gain more research experience without knowing where to start

  • develop a career path across practice and research

  • lead their own research in the future

  • critically think how to build strong bridges between practice and research evidence
